Fat Transfer & Subcision

Improve the Deeper Scars and Indenation with Autologous Fat Transfer and Subcision

Sometimes acne lesions and cists end up leaving a large dent. These dents can be improved with lasers but they can also benefit from various fillers that can be used to fix the indentation. In addition to collagen, restylane, and bellafill, we can also use your own body fat as a filler. Fat is harvested from the abdomen or side and concentrated in small syringes and is then injected directly under the scars to fill them in. Subcision involves using a small needle to cut the bands that are pulling the skin down causing dimples and indentations. Subcision is often performed with fat transfer.

Procedure Information

The area from where the fat is taken will be given a local anesthetic. The fat will then be harvested using small syringes and prepared to be injected right away. Excess fat can be kept and frozen for future fat transfer procedures. The Los Angeles Acne Center has a licensed and state-approved tissue bank where your fat can safely be stored.

Patients usually feel some discomfort during the harvesting and a slight stinging during the fat injection. There may be some swelling and bruising in the area afterwards, but any pain can be controlled with oral medication. Individual results may vary. All patients should discuss your specific case with your physician. Most patients will need to come in for additional treatments from time to time, but the results may last for several years.
